The smart city requires high quality traffic data. For many cities this is a big challenge due to the cost of new and required infrastructure. The BMVI funded project ParkCheck aims to investigate the possibility of a low-cost radio-based sensor which can be easily deployed.
In the project, NovelSense will use UWB transceivers in a gate like architecture. This should enable us to detect and count vehicles passing this invisible “counter”. Therefore we are developing an AI based detection pipeline which will run on an embedded board on-site. The consortium aims to realize several use-cases including parking measurements in urban parallel-parking scenarios.
The project is carried out with project partner Smart City Systems. The Nuremberg based startup is working on the digitalization of parking spaces and would like to use the technology in urban parking settings.
